Discrimination against Muslims in a NYC school
Be sure to read this fascinating article about a school in NYC intended to promote cultural awareness and sensitivity between Arab and non-Arab children that has faced so much anti-Islamic activism that its principal has been forced to step down. Excellent glimpse into the subtlety of American attitudes towards Islam.

This is so disheartening! Not only is this school a progressive idea, but learning Arabic would open a lot of doors for these students not only culturally, but also in the job field (international relations, economics, international trade, etc)!
I feel like Americans generally have been feeling like we've been getting rid of discrimination as TV ads about social acceptance and programs about tolerance are enstated in schools. Cultural, racial and sexual tolerance have definitely improved, but we obviously still have a long way to go. How can we expect to promote international peace if we can't even offer peace in the US, a place that is supposed to be a home for ALL of us?
